Mr Donald Gray from Grays Farm in Wokingham, Officially Opens Vegetable Garden at Our Lady’s Preparatory School & Day Nursery in Crowthorne
Our Lady’s Preparatory School, term time Nursery and Day Nursery, with children from 3 months up to 11 years, officially opened their vegetable garden in the school’s grounds at 11am on Friday 25th September. Children from as young as two will be involved in the planting and caring for the vegetables, and in time the children will pick the vegetables and work with the school chef to prepare, cook and eat them.
Our Lady’s has joined the National Food Partnership which aims to develop food and nutrition education, specifically practical work with food, as a key learning activity. The staff at Our Lady’s appreciate the importance of diet on children’s learning and make every effort to ensure each child eats a well balanced meal, and has an understanding of what they are eating and where it comes from. The vegetable patch will play a key part in developing this understanding.
Mr Donald Gray, owner of Grays Farm, Heathlands Road, Wokingham opened the vegetable garden, invited by Mrs Robinson Head Mistress at Our Lady’s Preparatory School. The garden is being dedicated to Mrs Robinson’s late mother who was previously Head Mistress at the school, and taught at Our Lady’s for over thirty years. “Mary Paquette’s Pumpkin Patch” was a name chosen by Mrs Andrews, one of the parents at the school.
Mrs Robinson says, “ I am delighted that Mr Gray will be officially opening our vegetable garden and touched that it will be dedicated to my late mother who spent many years teaching at the school and who was a keen gardener. I am looking forward to both the staff and children spending time at the vegetable garden.”
