Nursery
Nursery (3-5 year olds)
Staff to child ratio 1:8
Children are admitted into the Nursery in the term following their third birthday, either directly from the Day Nursery or new into the school. Care is available on a year round basis as in the Day Nursery or on a term time basis, offering any combination of morning and / or afternoon sessions.
The children in the pre-school are very much a part of the wider school and in addition to Nursery Nurses, benefit from a full time qualified teacher during term time. Children follow the Early Learning Goals recommended by the Government which places much emphasis on play. We also extend this and offer many different educational and learning opportunities for your child.
The children make full use of the school’s facilities including the ICT suite, specialist French Teacher, pottery room, nature garden, playing field and sports hall. In addition, the children go swimming weekly, at the nearby pool in Wellington College.
All activities follow a weekly theme which is shared with parents to encourage further opportunities for learning at home. Children may be taken into the village to gain real life experiences to support these themes if appropriate.
Children also benefit from the outdoor classroom and the covered outside areas which enable a variety of learning environments whatever the weather. The pre-school joins the rest of the school to perform productions and participate in assemblies.
The 3-5’s have a large, spacious room connected to a second room which the children are able to move between during the day. The rooms have defined areas for each type of activity and the children have access to these at all times. These areas include a craft and messy play, construction, music, book corner, role play, colouring and drawing and writing.
