Medical Care
At Our Lady’s we take great care to assist parents in the well being of their child. The majority of staff have undergone paediatric first aid training and all senior staff are experienced in dealing with children when they are unwell or injure themselves due to unavoidable accidents.
Throughout the school and nursery we have policies which cover first aid treatment and the administration of prescribed medicines. Provided the relevant forms are completed by the parents, staff are more than happy to give medication during the day. In unforeseen circumstances, should a child require pain relief or medicine to relieve a high temperature procedures are followed to contact parents or guardians and permission obtained to give the stated dose.
If a child becomes unwell during their day at school or nursery they will be cared for in a sympathetic manner and comforted until a parent or carer is available to collect them. In the rare event of an extreme accident or a sudden medical emergency procedures are in place so that staff can deal with this in a calm controlled manner.
Medical advice will be sought and if necessary an ambulance summoned, parents will be contacted immediately and kept fully informed of the situation. At all times the child’s comfort and well being will be kept to the forefront of the mind of the member of staff dealing with them and great care will be taken to reduce their anxiety.
