Our Lady’s Preparatory School & Nursery

Co-educational from 3 months to 11 years

Appointment of New Head Teacher

Appointment of new Headmaster

The Board of Trustees of Our Lady’s Preparatory School and Nursery are delighted to announce that Mr Michael Stone has been appointed to succeed Mrs Helene Robinson as Headmaster from 1 August 2019.

Mr Stone was the unanimous choice of the Board of Trustees after an extremely thorough recruitment process in which they met with and assessed a number of high calibre candidates.

The Board of Trustees were supported throughout the recruitment process by:

  • Mrs Claire Robinson – Headteacher at Holme Grange School
  • Mrs Catherine Hobbs – Director of Education at Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth
  • RSAcademics – specialist educational search consultancy.

Mr Stone has been previously employed at Hawley Place School (now called HawleyHurst School) and was Principal and Headmaster for the period September 2014 to April 2018.

As Headmaster at Hawley Place, Mr Stone implemented a broad range of positive changes, notably with school structure, staffing, marketing and admissions.  He successfully ensured change to co-education in a senior school and a two-fold increase in Preparatory School roll.

During his tenure, many of his pupils at Hawley Place won scholarships to the top independent schools in Hampshire.  He successfully introduced a wide range of initiatives that enabled the school to augment its reputation as nurturing and family-oriented and in particular strengthen its commitment to outstanding pastoral care and high academic achievement.

In recent months, he has worked as an Educational Consultant, providing specialist advice and pre-ISI inspection assistance to a range of preparatory, senior and international schools.

Prior to 2014, his previous employers include Salesian College, Farnborough, where he occupied the position of Deputy Head, Academic.

Mr Stone attended school in Sheffield, before reading a BA (Hons) in Philosophy and Theology at Durham University. He then completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at Cambridge University.

Following this, his additional postgraduate studies resulted in the award of a Masters in Education (Leadership) from the Institute of Education (London) and the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH).

Mr Stone is married to Gwénola, and they have two children.  His interests are wide ranging, including fitness and classic cars.  As a fluent speaker of French, Mr Stone is naturally an avid Francophile.

Mr Stone will work closely with Mrs Robinson over the remainder of the academic year to help prepare for a smooth transition in August.

Please join the Board of Trustees, in extending a very warm welcome to Mr Stone.  We look forward to a strong partnership with him as we embark upon the next chapter for Our Lady’s.

Yours sincerely

The Board of Trustees
